So...Thomas had been planning to build a pirate ship for about two months. He saved cardboard boxes, drew flags, drew an instruction manual that included nine pages, gathered pirate booty, and made cannons with golf balls for cannonballs. He even talked Steve into giving him some styrofoam so it would float.
What these two well-intentioned parents didn't realize was that our sweet five-year-old genuinely believed we were going to build the ship, put it in the van, and take it to a large body of water to sail in - ALL FOUR OF US!! Here is the result of what happened when Jeremy told him that 1) it wouldn't fit in the van, 2) the three small styrofoam cubes wouldn't support the boat, and 3) the cardboard would disintegrate....
It was pitiful!!
Eventually he calmed down, and enjoyed his land-locked pirate ship for a week or so. I enjoyed it, too, but did miss my parking spot in the garage once we moved it to even drier land.
